Improve your Golf Putting
An Individual Approach
Putting is the most individual action of any golfer. Natural instincts take over when putting more so than any other part of your golf game. This is because putting is so much about instinct and touch. With that said, putting is similar to hitting a full shot. Achieving a consistent, square impact is much more important than how we achieve it. That is why you see so many different styles of putting, so the old saying "Do what works for you," makes a lot of sense to get your golf ball go in the hole.
There are certain principles that I think are necessary to good putting. Choose a golf putter you are comfortable with as far as length and lie angle. Above all, select a putter that is easy to aim at your intended target.
Grip
he grip I use is one in which the putter is placed in the hollow part of the left hand (for right-handed golfers). My right hand is underneath enough so that my right thumb rests on the left side of the handle, as illustrated above.

Ball Position and Stance
Make sure your ball position is toward the forward heel and your toes are parallel to the target line. Your eyes should be over the ball. This helps not only in being able to aim properly, but also with seeing the line of the putt more easily.

Inside and down the line
Best results can be found when using a putter path that goes slightly inside on the backstroke and then down the line on the forward motion. Ensure when you make the backstroke that the putter blade stays square and does not fan open.
To help achieve this Inside, Down the Line path ... Hold the putter in the right hand only (see below) and hit a few putts to acquire the feel for this system.

Grip Pressure
After some initial putts with the right hand only (if you are a right handed golfer), try gripping with both hands on the handle. Apply less pressure to your strokes ... around 75% with the right hand and 20% with the left hand. This will focus on putting more so with your right hand.

Putting is a the intimate part of any golfers game, and you will find many people practice and teach in a variety of different ways.
